Mono-Green Hydra Landfall
StandardDeck Strategy
A mono-green landfall and +1/+1 counter deck that turns every land drop into permanent growth for Mossborn Hydra and other big threats.
Evolving Wilds triggers Mossborn Hydra and Freestrider Lookout twice, once for the Wilds and once for the fetched Forest. Bristly Bill, Spine Sower can double all +1/+1 counters, while Doubling Season stacks additional counters and makes growth faster. Case of the Locked Hothouse and Spelunking provide extra land drops, and Lumra, Bellow of the Woods returns lands from the graveyard to the battlefield for a massive landfall turn. Railway Brawler grows with each creature spell, adding another persistent threat.
Keep hands with two to three lands, preferably a green source plus Glimpse the Core or a landfall threat. Mulligan hands that are all ramp with no threat, or hands that lack green mana entirely.
Use early Glimpse the Core and Spelunking to ramp and trigger landfall. In the midgame, commit Mossborn Hydra, Freestrider Lookout, and Goldvein Hydra to the battlefield while Case of the Locked Hothouse and Evolving Wilds keep landfall triggers coming. Finish by doubling counters with Bristly Bill or resolving a large Lumra, Overlord of the Hauntwoods, or Goldvein Hydra to attack with trample.
Board wipes and instant-speed exile removal can stop Hydras before they grow out of reach. Countermagic on key creatures, fast aggro before ramp stabilizes, graveyard hate against Lumra, and land disruption all hurt the deck’s engine.
