Deck Strategy
Concept
A controlling Esper deck that uses efficient removal, counterspells, and board wipes to survive, then wins with planeswalkers, recursion, and evasive threats.
Synergies
- Kiora, the Rising Tide generates card advantage and can create 8/8 Krakens as a win condition.
- High Fae Trickster provides a flash threat that can bounce a creature, disrupting the opponent's tempo.
- Day of Judgment and Deadly Cover-Up clear the board, giving you time to stabilize.
- Funeral Room // Awakening Hall allows you to reanimate creatures, bringing back Lyra Dawnbringer or High Fae Trickster for additional value.
- Phyrexian Arena and Case of the Uneaten Feast provide card draw at the cost of life, manageable in control.
- No More Lies and Negate are flexible counterspells.
- Get Lost, Bitter Triumph, and Hero's Downfall answer planeswalkers and creatures.
- Bloodthirsty Conqueror and Lyra Dawnbringer provide lifegain and a clock.
Mulligan Strategy
Keep hands with 2-4 lands, at least one piece of cheap interaction (Bitter Triumph, Get Lost, No More Lies), and a way to draw cards or a threat. Against aggro, prioritize hands with cheap removal and a board wipe. Against control, prioritize hands with card draw and counterspells.
Game Plan
- Early game: Use Bitter Triumph and Get Lost to deal with early threats. Use counterspells to stop key spells. Deploy Phyrexian Arena or Case of the Uneaten Feast for card advantage.
- Mid game: Use Day of Judgment and Deadly Cover-Up to clear the board. Resolve Kiora or Awakening Hall to start generating advantage. Use Hero's Downfall and Negate to answer threats.
- Late game: Win with Kiora's Krakens, High Fae Trickster, Lyra Dawnbringer, Bloodthirsty Conqueror, or reanimated creatures. Use counterspells to protect your win conditions.
Weaknesses
- Fast aggro decks that go wide before you can wipe the board.
- Decks with lots of planeswalkers that can't be easily answered.
- Hand disruption that strips your key cards.
- Mana issues due to many tapped lands; can be slow.
