Teferi's Azorius Veto
BrawlDeck Strategy
A hard-control Azorius Brawl deck commanded by Teferi, Hero of Dominaria, using a dense counterspell suite, board wipes, and planeswalker value to lock opponents out while winning with evasive threats.
- Teferi, Hero of Dominaria + Counterspells: Teferi untaps two lands on your end step, letting you hold up counter mana every turn while still advancing your board.
- Time Wipe + Teferi, Hero of Dominaria: Time Wipe bounces Teferi to your hand, allowing you to recast him and untap again, while clearing the board of creatures.
- Torrential Gearhulk / Snapcaster Mage + Counterspell / Swords to Plowshares: Flash these creatures in to rebuy your best interaction at instant speed, essentially playing a 5/6 or 2/1 that came with a free counter or removal spell.
- Narset, Parter of Veils + Teferi, Time Raveler: Narset stops opponents from drawing extra cards, while Teferi, Time Raveler makes your sorcery-speed wipes and planeswalkers uncounterable and forces opponents to play at sorcery speed.
- Shark Typhoon + The One Ring: Both dodge sorcery-speed wipes — Typhoon makes an instant-speed token in response to removal, and The One Ring grants protection from everything while refilling your hand.
Keep any hand with 3–5 lands plus at least two cheap interaction spells (Counterspell, Mana Leak, Spell Pierce, Swords to Plowshares, Get Lost) and one card-advantage engine (planeswalker, Mazemind Tome, The One Ring, or Shark Typhoon). Mulligan any hand with fewer than 3 lands, any hand with no interaction, and any hand whose only spells cost 5 or more. Seven-card hands with 4 lands and one two-mana counterspell are snap-keeps.
Early (Turns 1–3): Play lands, stay reactive, and hold up one- to two-mana interaction. Cast Teferi, Time Raveler or a cheap threat like Shark Typhoon when the opponent taps out, but prioritize keeping counter mana open. Mid (Turns 4–6): Stabilize with your removal (Swords to Plowshares, Get Lost, March of Otherworldly Light) and a board wipe (Wrath of God, Doomskar, Sunfall, Settle the Wreckage) if you fall behind. Resolve Teferi, Hero of Dominaria, Narset, Parter of Veils, or The Wandering Emperor to take control of the tempo. Counter every attempt to rebuild. Late (Turn 7+): Deploy an unbeatable engine — Teferi, Hero of Dominaria, Torrential Gearhulk, Hullbreaker Horror, Kiora Bests the Sea God, or Dream Trawler. From there, counter their haymakers, use Time Wipe or Farewell to reset the board, and win with a single evasive finisher. Time Wipe returning Teferi lets you untap and keep counter mana up after every wipe.
- Fast aggro: Decks that dump multiple one-drops before you can hold up counter mana can race you if you stumble on lands.
- Uncounterable spells: Cavern of Souls, Chandra, Torch of Defiance, and other "can't be countered" threats must be answered with removal, so don't over-invest in counters alone.
- Graveyard and combo decks: Reanimation and storm-style strategies can go over the top of one-for-one interaction — prioritize Narset and graveyard hate effects.
- Ramp and big mana: A deck that ramps past your counter wall can cast multiple threats per turn; fight it with board wipes and The One Ring, not just counters.
