Deck Strategy
Concept

A hyper-aggressive Mono-Red Goblins deck that swarms the board with cheap goblins, tutors up its finishers with Goblin Matron, and closes games by resolving Muxus, Goblin Grandee to dump a fistful of goblins onto the battlefield at once.

Synergies

  • Skirk Prospector + Muxus, Goblin Grandee: Sacrifice spare goblin tokens or the creatures Muxus leaves behind for {R} to power out Muxus a full turn early or to double-spell.
  • Goblin Warchief + everything: Warchief makes Goblin Matron cost {1}{R}, makes Muxus cost only {4}{R}, and grants all your Goblins haste so the board Muxus drops in can attack immediately.
  • Goblin Matron → Goblin Ringleader / Muxus: Matron is a guaranteed tutor for whichever payoff you are missing, so you almost never brick on finding your top end.
  • Muxus + Goblin Ringleader / Siege-Gang Commander / Battle Cry Goblin: Muxus reveals six cards and puts every Goblin with mana value 5 or less onto the battlefield — Ringleader then refills your hand with more Goblins while Siege-Gang and Battle Cry Goblin convert the wide board into reach and pump.
  • Rundvelt Hordemaster + a developed board: The Hordemaster pumps every other Goblin and turns each Goblin death into card advantage by exiling the top card of your library and letting you cast it if it is a Goblin.
  • Battle Cry Goblin + wide board: Its pack-tactics trigger makes extra 1/1s, and its {1}{R} pump gives the whole team +1/+0 and haste, turning six or seven small bodies into lethal damage.
  • Krenko, Mob Boss + Goblin Warchief: Warchief's haste lets Krenko tap the turn it lands, doubling your Goblin count every turn.

Mulligan Strategy

  • Snap keep: 2–4 lands plus a proactive curve (Skirk Prospector or a two-drop into Goblin Matron/Warchief into a payoff). Any hand containing Goblin Matron or Muxus with three lands is a keep.
  • Keep: Four lands plus Skirk Prospector and a lord — Skirk converts your extra bodies into the mana you need to reach Muxus.
  • Mulligan: Zero- or one-land hands, six-or-more-land hands, and hands with no play before turn three. Also mulligan all-Lightning-Strike / all-four-drop openers against fast aggro — you need a board, not removal.
  • Against faster aggro (Mono-Red, Rakdos, Elves): lean toward keeping hands with Goblin Chainwhirler, since it sweeps their one-toughness creatures while leaving a 3/3 first striker behind.

Game Plan

  • Early (Turns 1–3): Deploy Skirk Prospector, then Rundvelt Hordemaster, Goblin Warchief, or Battle Cry Goblin. Attack every turn — Goblin Warchief and Battle Cry Goblin make your team hit harder and faster, and every point of damage counts toward the burn finish. Use Lightning Strike or Goblin Chainwhirler to clear early blockers.
  • Mid (Turns 4–5): Cast Goblin Matron to fetch whichever piece you lack (usually Muxus or Ringleader), use Goblin Ringleader to reload your hand with Goblins, and use Siege-Gang Commander or a hasted Krenko to go wide. Chainwhirler is your reset button against token and mana-dork decks.
  • Late (Turn 6+): Resolve Muxus, Goblin Grandee — with Goblin Warchief in play it costs only five mana, and Skirk Prospector can sacrifice tokens to help cast it. Muxus typically puts 4–6 Goblins directly onto the battlefield; those creatures plus the Warchief's haste should be lethal on the following attack. Finish with Siege-Gang Commander's damage ability, Battle Cry Goblin's pump, or Lightning Strike to the face.

Weaknesses

  • Mass removal: Wrath of God, Deafening Clarion, Storm's Wrath, and Extinction Event are painful, though Rundvelt Hordemaster turns some of the losses into card advantage.
  • Targeted removal and counterspells: Killing Muxus in response to its trigger, or countering it, strands a six-mana investment. Goblin Matron's tutor helps you find the second copy.
  • Tough, lifelinking blockers and big creatures: Without a huge board, a single large lifelinker can stall you out; Lightning Strike and Siege-Gang Commander are your outs.
  • Stacked Goblins get punished by sweepers and by opposing Goblin Chainwhirlers, which kill your Prospectors, Matrons, and tokens.
  • Legendary lands: Castle Embereth and Den of the Bugbear are legendary, so drawing multiples can cost you tempo, and the deck is vulnerable to land destruction or Blood Moon-style effects in some matchups.
