Spider-Man: Web-Slinger Burn

Deck Strategy
Concept

A lean Izzet (Blue/Red) aggro-burn deck that leads with Spider-Man, Web-Slinger and other cheap evasive heroes, then converts a stream of one-mana burn spells into an unstoppable attack step.

Synergies

The deck's engine is spell-dense aggression. Slickshot Show-Off grows every time you cast a noncreature spell, so a single Lightning Strike or Shock can add two or three points of damage across your board in the same combat step. Because Slickshot Show-Off has Plot, you can set it up earlier and deploy it for free on a turn you want to hold mana open for Spell Pierce or Phantom Interference, so you never tap out without protection. Spider-Man, Web-Slinger is the themed evasive threat that ties the deck together, and Witchstalker Frenzy plus Burst Lightning clear away the one blocker that would otherwise stop the swarm. Emberheart Challenger and Kaito, Cunning Infiltrator round out the curve with bodies that keep the pressure coming after a trade.

Mulligan Strategy

Keep any hand with two or three lands, at least one cheap creature, and two or more one-mana spells. Snap-mulligan zero- or one-land hands, and also throw back hands with five or more lands, since this deck never wants more than four lands in play. A hand of two lands, Slickshot Show-Off, Opt, and Lightning Strike is a perfect keep. Never keep an all-burn hand with no creature — your creatures are what turn your spells into damage.

Game Plan

Early game (turns 1-3): deploy a one-drop and start attacking immediately, holding up Opt or Spell Pierce whenever possible so you never tap out for nothing. Use Plot on Slickshot Show-Off on a spare turn so you can dump it for free alongside a protected attack. Mid game (turns 4-6): stack two or three spells in a single combat step to grow your team, aim Witchstalker Frenzy and Burst Lightning at the biggest blocker, and use Spell Pierce or Phantom Interference to fight through the removal spell that would break up your attack. Late game: once the board stalls, point every Lightning Strike, Shock, and Burst Lightning straight at the opponent's face, using Opt at end of turn to dig for the final burn spell. This deck routinely closes from 8 or more life in a single attack step.

Weaknesses

Board sweepers such as Sunfall, Day of Judgment effects, and Blasphemous Edict are your worst matchup, so do not over-commit into open mana and keep Spell Pierce available. Lifegain decks that gain five or more life a turn can out-pace your burn, and cheap deathtouch or large blockers stop your attack step cold. Twenty lands plus four Evolving Wilds means mana flood is a real risk, so aggressively cycle with Opt and never keep a five-land hand. Finally, this is a two-color deck with no true dual lands, so plan your land drops carefully and mulligan any hand that cannot cast both a red and a blue spell by turn three.
