Mono Black Good Stuff
StandardDeck Strategy
A mono-black midrange deck that uses hand disruption, removal, and card advantage to grind out wins with evasive threats.
Deep-Cavern Bat and Duress strip the opponent’s best answers before they matter, while Stalactite Stalker adds early pressure and another discard effect in the air. Bitter Triumph, Long Goodbye, Hero’s Downfall, and Murder keep the board clear, and Phyrexian Arena keeps your hand full so you can always answer threats and eventually close with Vein Ripper or Lord Skitter’s rat swarm.
Mulligan hands with no black source, only one land, or all late-game cards. Keep two-to-three land hands with a turn-two play like Deep-Cavern Bat or Stalactite Stalker, or at least one removal spell.
Early: use Duress and Deep-Cavern Bat to disrupt, Stalactite Stalker to chip in the air, and removal to keep the battlefield clear. Mid: resolve Phyrexian Arena for card advantage, then continue answering threats while your flyers deal damage. Late: finish with Vein Ripper’s lifelink pressure or use Lord Skitter and Nine-Lives Familiar to generate a wide board of evasive attackers.
The deck is light on big finishers and can lose to extremely wide boards without sweepers. It has no clean answer to enchantments and can fall behind if Phyrexian Arena is removed. The low creature count means your life total matters, so use removal wisely.
