Standard Mono-Red Aggro
StandardDeck Strategy
A blistering mono-red aggro deck that overwhelms opponents with cheap haste creatures, pump spells, and efficient burn before they can stabilize.
- Heartfire Hero grows each time it deals combat damage, becoming a must-answer threat that quickly powers up with Monstrous Rage.
- Slickshot Show-Off burrows and draws cards on hit, providing card advantage while Manifold Mouse gains +1/+0 and first strike when you cast noncreature spells, making it a repeatable threat.
- Furnace Reins steals an opponent’s creature, often allowing a final alpha strike. Flick a Coin deals damage and ramps with a treasure token, accelerating your own threats or enabling kicker.
- Blazing Crescendo pumps a creature and draws a card, replacing itself while delivering damage. Shock and Torch the Tower cheaply clear blockers or finish the opponent.
Keep any hand with two or three lands and at least one one-drop creature. Mulligan hands with no one-drop or only expensive spells. Hands with four or more lands are risky because you need early threats. Aggressive decks can win with five-card hands if they have early pressure.
Early (Turns 1-2): Drop a one-drop creature (e.g., Heartfire Hero, Hired Claw) and attack. Use burn spells like Shock or Torch the Tower to remove blockers or finish off enemy creatures that could trade.
Mid (Turns 3-4): Continue deploying threats like Slickshot Show-Off or Manifold Mouse. Use Monstrous Rage to push damage through. Flick a Coin can clear a blocker and give mana. Furnace Reins steals a key creature for a final attack. Blazing Crescendo pumps and draws.
Late (Turn 5+): Top-deck burn to finish the opponent. If the game goes long, use Slickshot Show-Off card draw to find more gas. Hired Claw can convert unused mana into extra damage via tapping for red.
- Lifegain decks can outpace your damage. Save burn for key creatures or aim at face despite lifegain.
- Board wipes (e.g., Sunfall, Farewell) reset your aggressive start. Try to rebuild with haste creatures or hold back one threat.
- Heavy control with cheap removal (e.g., Cut Down, Go for the Throat) can disrupt your curve. Adapt by forcing through damage with haste creatures and burn.
- Fast combo decks (e.g., Azorius Soldiers) may out-speed you. Prioritize removal on their key pieces.
