Selesnya Cat Pride
StandardDeck Strategy
A Selesnya Cat-flavored aggro-midrange deck that goes wide with Cats and Cat tokens, then closes with anthems, big bodies, and a resilient token engine.
- Prideful Parent and Arahbo, the First Fang both create Cat tokens and pump your team, so every attack leaves you with a wider, stronger board.
- Regal Bunnicorn grows every time you make a token, turning Prideful Parent, Bakersbane Duo, and Sanguine Evangelist activations into real damage.
- The Skullspore Nexus converts every nontoken creature that dies into a Fungus Dinosaur token, so removal and combat trades never leave you empty, and it pumps whatever survives.
- Intrepid Paleontologist ramps you ahead of curve and can convert creature cards in graveyards into extra bodies, feeding the token plan.
- Sovereign Okinec Ahau and Anthem of Champions reward you for building a wide board, and Cat Collector plus Malamet Veteran keep the Cat count high for Arahbo's trigger.
- Get Lost is your flexible interaction: it exiles any permanent (including tokens, enchantments, and planeswalkers) and you can spend the Map tokens it gives you later.
Keep hands with 2-3 lands, an early play (Malamet Brawler, Bakersbane Duo, Intrepid Paleontologist), and at least one payoff (Prideful Parent, Arahbo, Regal Bunnicorn, Skullspore Nexus). Mulligan hands with five or more lands, hands with no play before turn three, or one-land hands without a green source.
Early: deploy cheap Cats like Malamet Brawler and Bakersbane Duo to pressure the board, and ramp with Intrepid Paleontologist to fix colors and accelerate. Mid: land Prideful Parent, Cat Collector, and Malamet Veteran to build a wide Cat board, then resolve Arahbo, the First Fang or Anthem of Champions to pump the team. Use Get Lost to answer a key blocker, token producer, or planeswalker, and The Skullspore Nexus to make your board wipe-resistant. Late: Regal Bunnicorn, Sanguine Evangelist, Toby, Beastie Befriender, and Sovereign Okinec Ahau flood the board with tokens and counters, while Hulking Raptor and Pugnacious Hammerskull provide the big bodies to finish the game.
- The deck commits heavily to creatures, so efficient sweepers can be devastating unless The Skullspore Nexus is online.
- The Cat payoffs are few, so hands without Arahbo or Prideful Parent lean on generic Selesnya beatdown rather than true tribal synergy.
- Mana can be awkward: Evolving Wilds and Secluded Courtyard are slow, so hands without a green source risk falling behind against fast aggro.
