Creatureless Chandra Burn
StandardDeck Strategy
A creatureless mono-red control-burn deck that uses efficient removal to survive while Chandra planeswalkers and direct damage close the game.
Chandra, Flameshaper and Chandra, Spark Hunter both provide repeatable card advantage and damage while demanding answers; their abilities pair with cheap burn like Shock, Lightning Strike, and Burst Lightning to pressure opponents and clear blockers. Demand Answers refuels the hand by turning extra lands into card draw, while Pyroclasm and Abrade keep the board clear so the planeswalkers can take over.
Keep hands with two to four Mountains and at least two cheap interactive spells such as Shock, Lightning Strike, Burst Lightning, or Abrade. Mulligan hands with no early removal or more than five lands; you need to survive the first turns and reach a Chandra.
Early game, use cheap burn to kill mana creatures and small attackers while chipping the opponent. Midgame, resolve Chandra, Spark Hunter or Chandra, Flameshaper and use their abilities to generate value and control the board. Late game, use Demand Answers to find more gas and finish with copied burn, planeswalker ultimates, and direct damage.
Fast go-wide aggro can overwhelm your limited sweepers, lifegain can outpace your burn, and counterspell-heavy control decks can answer your planeswalkers. Because the deck has no creatures, hasty threats and resolved planeswalkers can be difficult to handle if your removal is poorly sequenced.
